Tigers set for Afghanistan series in October

While Bangladesh’s series against India in September remains in limbo, the Tigers have red-ball and white-ball assignments to look forward to in October. Bangladesh are set to face Afghanistan in the UAE in a series featuring one Test and three white-ball matches.

“There is a series against Afghanistan in October, one red-ball assignment and three white-ball matches. Since Afghanistan are the hosts of the series, they will determine the schedule and format of the white-ball fixtures,” Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) cricket operations in-charge Shahriar Nafees told The Daily Star today.

The lone Test will provide important preparation for Bangladesh’s upcoming red-ball assignments against the West Indies and South Africa. The Tigers are scheduled to host the West Indies for a two-match Test series in October-November before travelling to South Africa for two Tests, three ODIs and as many T20Is. The two Test series are part of the World Test Championship (WTC).

Bangladesh are currently fourth in the WTC standings and will complete their campaign with two home Tests against England in February 2027. The series will mark England’s first Test tour of Bangladesh since 2016.

India were scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on August 28, but the two boards remain in discussions over the series. BCB president Tamim Iqbal recently hinted that the dates could be rescheduled.
