Hasan Mahmud takes seven as Kent beat Worcestershire

Hasan Mahmud made an impressive return to the County Championship, taking seven wickets across two innings as Kent secured their sixth victory of the season.

Kent beat Worcestershire by 84 runs on Saturday at Canterbury, in the third session of the fourth and final day. Chasing a daunting target of 390, Worcestershire were bowled out for 295 in their second innings, with Hasan taking 3-51.

He had earlier claimed 4-68 in the first innings.

Hasan had taken 12 wickets in two matches during his first stint with Kent, prompting the county to bring him back. The 26-year-old repaid their faith immediately, taking his tally to 19 wickets in three matches this season at an average of just 18.31.

Hasan made two crucial breakthroughs on the final day. He trapped Adam Hose lbw to end a 76-run partnership before bowling Henry Cullen to break an 86-run stand. Later, with Worcestershire on 265-5, he dismissed Ben Allison lbw for his third wicket of the innings.

South African seamer Keith Dudgeon also claimed 3-63, while England's Matt Milnes took 3-51, including the final wicket to seal Kent's victory. New Zealand paceman Matt Quinn took the other wicket.

Worcestershire captain Brett D'Oliveira's century ultimately went in vain. He remained unbeaten on 103 from 221 balls, hitting 12 fours, as Worcestershire lost their final five wickets for just 30 runs.

The victory moved Kent into second place in Division Two as they continue their push for promotion to Division One. They have 170 points from 11 matches, while leaders Durham have 210 from the same number of games. Three rounds remain in the competition.
