IPL fines Rajasthan team manager for using phone in dugout
The Indian Premier League said Friday it had issued Rajasthan Royals manager Ravinder Singh Bhinder a 100,000-rupee ($1,080) fine for using a phone in the team's dugout during a match.
Images of the team manager on his phone during a T20 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 10 were broadcast and shared widely on social media, prompting widespread criticism.
"Acknowledging the lapse, Mr Bhinder admitted to the offence and offered an unconditional apology," said a statement posted on the league's website.
"He has also been warned to exercise greater care in the future and to adhere strictly to the established guidelines."
IPL rules state that while a team manager is allowed to use a phone in the dressing room area, it is off limits in the dugout.
Rajasthan Royals currently sit at number three on the points table, having lost only one game this season so far -- just behind Bengaluru and Punjab Kings.
