Apple quietly launched a cheaper iPhone 17e
Apple has officially introduced the iPhone 17e, a more affordable addition to the iPhone 17 lineup.
The iPhone 17e is powered by Apple’s latest-generation A19 chip built on advanced 3-nanometer technology and features a 6-core CPU that is up to 2 times faster than iPhone 11, a 4-core GPU with Neural Accelerators for console-level gaming and hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and a 16-core Neural Engine optimised for generative AI models.
According to Apple, the iPhone 17e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with up to 1200 nits peak HDR brightness and Ceramic Shield 2. The device is built with aerospace-grade aluminium and carries an IP68 rating for splash, water, and dust resistance. It supports satellite features including Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages, and Find My via satellite when outside cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.
The device also introduces C1X, Apple’s latest cellular modem, which is up to 2x faster than C1 in iPhone 16e and 30 percent more energy efficient than the modem in iPhone 16 Pro. The smartphone comes with 256GB of base storage and runs on iOS 26. It houses a 48 MP Fusion camera system, offering an optical-quality 2x Telephoto option and recording 4K Dolby Vision video up to 60fps. Fast wired USB-C charging up to 50 percent in around 30 minutes and MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W, as per Apple.
The iPhone 17e will be available for pre-order beginning March 4, with availability starting March 11. It comes in black, white, and soft pink matte finishes and starts at $599 for the 256 GB model.
Apple also highlighted its sustainability efforts, noting that the iPhone 17e uses 30 percent recycled content and is manufactured with renewable electricity across the supply chain.
