United International University (UIU) offered students a much-needed pause from its tight academic schedule and exam stress through “UIU Pitha Utshob 2026”. The festival was a vibrant celebration of Bangali culture and winter traditions.

Organised by the Directorate of Career Counselling & Student Affairs (DCCSA), the two-day festival was held on January 20 and 21 at the UIU Playground. The event was inaugurated by Professor Dr Md Abul Kashem Mia, Vice-Chancellor of United International University, as the Chief Guest, marking the beginning of a joyful cultural gathering that brought together students, faculty members, and administrative officials.

The playground was transformed as students set up numerous stalls offering a wide variety of traditional pitha, desserts, and winter delicacies. From the classic bhapa and patishapta to creative homemade sweets, the diversity of food reflected both tradition and innovation. Alongside these, stalls featuring food items from the hill tracts added more flavour to the festival.

The festival recreated the charm of a traditional village fair. Various attractions were present, such as a Ferris wheel, balloon-shooting games, etc.

For students, the festival held deeper significance. In the middle of hectic class routines, continuous assessments and exam stress, the Pitha Utshob became a moment of relief by facilitating a space to breathe and reconnect. It was a reminder that university life is not simply limited to meeting deadlines and getting good grades, but it’s also about undergoing shared experiences and making human connection.

“UIU Pitha Utshob 2026” succeeded in strengthening community bonds and promoting cultural appreciation within the campus. By blending tradition with student participation, the event reaffirmed UIU’s commitment to fostering unity and preserving heritage alongside academic excellence.

Even after the stalls were taken down, the festival left behind memories of laughter echoing across the playground and the aroma of winter delicacies in the air, serving as proof that moments of joy can find their way in even in the busiest academic seasons.
