Chamak seeks BNP nomination for reserved women’s seat
Several figures from Bangladesh’s entertainment industry have collected nomination forms from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to contest reserved seats for women in the upcoming national election, signalling a renewed intersection between culture and politics. Among those who have collected nomination forms and appeared for interviews are singers Baby Naznin, Kanak Chapa, Dilruba Khan and Rizia Parveen, along with actresses Dithi Anwar and Rina Khan.
Joining this list is actress Rukaiya Jahan Chamak, who has sought the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)’s nomination for a reserved seat from Kushtia. Chamak recently informed the media that she has joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, which is currently in power.
The BNP has already begun interviewing aspirants for the reserved women’s seats. On Friday afternoon, members of the party’s nomination board conducted interviews with hopeful candidates. Speaking to the media after her interview, Chamak said she is eager to work for the country, particularly for women.
“I want to contribute to the nation, especially for women. For that, I needed a platform. I believe that by working with BNP, I will be able to implement my plans. After discussions, I feel positive and I am fully hopeful. I will accept the party’s decision positively,” she said.
Born in Barishal and raised in Dhaka, Chamak entered the entertainment industry after becoming the second runner-up in the Miss World Bangladesh 2017 competition. She began her acting career in television in 2020 and has since appeared in several dramas and series, including “Girls Squad”, “Uran”, “Nogod Baki”, “Punorjonmo 3”, “Punorjonmo Antim Porbo”, “Criminals”, “Jinoner Chuktinama”, and so on.
