The flight carrying her body is expected to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka between 4:30pm and 5:00pm today (Sunday), Prothom Alo reports, citing her father and former national footballer Kaisar Hamid.

From the airport, Kaarina’s body will be taken to Banani DOHS, where her first funeral prayer is scheduled to be held at the central mosque after Maghrib prayers. A second funeral prayer will take place before Isha prayers at Banani Darbar Sharif Mosque.

Her final funeral prayer will be held after Zuhr prayers tomorrow (Monday) before she is laid to rest in Abdullahpur village of Gazaria upazila in Munshiganj. Family members said she will be buried beside land donated for a mosque by her mother.

Meanwhile, students and July movement activists have requested that a funeral prayer be held at the Central Shaheed Minar on Monday (May 18) morning. However, Kaisar Hamid said no final decision has yet been made regarding the proposal.

Kaarina Kaisar died on Friday (May 15) while undergoing treatment in Chennai, India. She had been flown there by air ambulance last Monday night for advanced treatment and was receiving care at Christian Medical College (CMC) Hospital in Vellore.

According to family sources, Kaarina initially developed a fever before infections were detected in her body. At the same time, complications related to hepatitis A and E led to liver failure. As her condition deteriorated, she was moved to the ICU and later placed on life support.

After being taken to Chennai, treatment for her lungs had begun, while preparations for a liver transplant were also underway.

Born on November 11, 1994, Kaarina Kaisar was 33. She is survived by her parents and two brothers. Renowned chess player Rani Hamid was her grandmother.
