Bengal Shilpalay recently presented the outcomes of its S M Sultan Art Conservation Project, a research-led initiative dedicated to preserving the works of one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated modern masters.

Implemented by Bengal Foundation with support from the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), the project focused on the research and conservation of S M Sultan’s artworks. The initiative incorporated art-historical study to develop sustainable restoration techniques aligned with Sultan’s distinctive artistic philosophy.

A key component also included training emerging Bangladeshi art conservators to strengthen local preservation capacity.

The conservation findings were formally presented at the Sultan Art Conservation Studio by representatives of Bengal Foundation, including Chair Abul Khair, Director General and Trustee Luva Nahid Choudhury, and Director Ataur Rahman.

US Ambassador Christensen visited the venue to receive an overview of the completed project. He later toured the Quamrul Hassan Exhibition Hall, where selected works from the Bengal Foundation Collection were on display, and visited Bengal Boi to learn about the foundation’s publishing, music and crafts initiatives.
