The magic of Kosovan cinema: 2-day film festival coming to Dhaka

Kosovo, a country with a rich film tradition, continues to make its mark on the global stage. Over the years, many of Its films have gained recognition and accolades at various international film festivals. In an effort to showcase the cinematic excellence of Kosovo, the country's embassy is organising a two-day film festival in Dhaka. 

Titled "Kosovar Film Days 2023", the festival will take place on June 5 and 6 at the main auditorium of the National Museum, running from 3 pm to 5 pm on both days. The event will feature a full-length film and seven captivating short films from Kosovo.

The opening day will showcase the full-length film, "Hive", directed by Belerta Basholli and released in 2021. Based on a true story, the film revolves around the life of a woman named Farizi, whose husband went missing during the Kosovo war of 1998-99. Struggling with financial hardships, Farizi embarks on a journey of resilience by starting a honey and pickle business, with the support of other women. However, their efforts are met with societal resistance. "Hive" has received widespread acclaim and won numerous awards at prestigious film festivals, including Sundance.

The second day of the festival will feature a selection of seven remarkable short films. Each film offers a unique and compelling narrative. Among the lineup are "Dedi" (12 minutes), "Our Bride" (4 minutes), "Whose Flag Is It" (14 minutes), "Prison Romance" (6 minutes), "Displaced" (15 minutes), "Pristine" (20 minutes), and "Without Kosovo" (22 minutes). These short films provide a glimpse into the diverse storytelling and creativity emerging from Kosovo.

The "Kosovar Film Days 2023" festival promises to be a impressive cinematic experience, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in the captivating world of Kosovan cinema.
