‘Vaccines protect to a great extent’
Though vaccines cannot provide complete protection against the coronavirus, they do protect people to a great extent, Prof Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam, director general of DGHS, said yesterday.
"As many as 70 percent of those who died during the fourth wave of the pandemic had not been vaccinated," he said at an event in the capital.
He added that majority of those who have been recently infected do not require hospitalisation.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Health Services reported four Covid-19 deaths and 430 new cases in the 24 hours till 8:00am yesterday. Of the four dead, three were men.
With the latest count, the total number of deaths in the country rose to 29,266 and the total confirmed cases to 20,01,775.
So far, around 97 percent of all Covid-19 patients have recovered.
