Humiliating a teacher
An associate professor of a government women's college in Mymensingh was disgraced in public. He was, allegedly, forced to disrobe and made to stand in public by some AL cadres. It is outrageous and we condemn it in the strongest possible terms.
Reportedly, the teacher was also taken to the local office of the MP where he was assaulted and disgraced further and threatened with even worse consequences, should he, according to the AL apparatchiks, go to the police. The reason, the victim, according to the perpetrators, had been criticising the local AL MP and taking stand against him.
This incident is fairly representative of the imperious manner with which the AL cadres have been conducting themselves. Apparently, the party's aversion to dissent has been reflected in the behaviour of the said cadres who could not stand any disagreement even with one who was one of them till he took up a government job as a teacher.
We have said in the past and repeat, much of the bad name that the government has received is due to the outrageous, illegal and abusive behaviour of its cadres. Apart from intra-cadre fighting these elements have been indulging in rent seeking, taking people hostage for ransom and such unlawful activities with gay abandon and complete impunity. And even teachers have fallen victim of their wrath.
The matter can not go unaddressed. We implore upon the AL as a party to take stern action against the perpetrators. People disgracing teachers must not go unpunished.
