The government has taken an initiative to introduce a centralised e-ticketing and box office system across all cinema halls in Bangladesh, aiming to modernise and ensure transparency in the country’s film industry.

To implement the plan, the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) is preparing a Development Project Proposal (DPP) worth approximately Tk 50 crore. The move comes following a positive response from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

BFDC Managing Director Masuma Rahman Tani said work on the proposal began after receiving encouraging signals from the government. She noted that the ministry has given importance to the initiative, with Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon and State Minister Yasser Khan Choudhury expressing their support.

According to ministry sources, a recent meeting discussed the implementation of e-ticketing and a centralised box office system in a positive light. Following this, BFDC was instructed to prepare and submit the DPP.

Work on the proposal has been underway for nearly 20 days. Masuma Rahman Tani said the DPP is expected to be submitted to the ministry’s development wing ahead of the upcoming Eid.

“We have already held a meeting with the state minister, who emphasised that the project should be implemented at minimal cost. We are committed to ensuring that,” she told the media.

Before drafting the proposal, BFDC held consultations with key stakeholders, including cinema hall owners’ associations, directors’ and producers’ bodies, as well as representatives from various streaming platforms. Most stakeholders expressed positive views regarding the introduction of e-ticketing and a centralised box office system.

A ministry official said that once submitted, the DPP will be presented at a ministry meeting and later sent to the Planning Commission for approval. Upon receiving approval, BFDC will begin implementation of the project.
