There is a particular irony in watching Syed Jamil Ahmed return to the stage after more than four decades as an actor. One of Bangladesh’s most influential theatre directors, who has spent much of his career shaping actors from the other side of the performance, is suddenly subject to the same conditions he has long asked performers to navigate.

Veteran actor Ilias Kanchan is returning to Bangladesh today after spending 15 months in London undergoing treatment for a brain tumour. He is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka at 5:30pm, a development confirmed to The Daily Star by Liton Ershad, vice-chairman of Nirapad Sarak Chai (Nischa).

The film's music was composed by Samar Das, while the songs were performed by Mahbuba Hasnat and Abdul Alim. Choreography was by Gawhar Jamil.

From that historic beginning, the Bangladeshi film industry gradually flourished, producing numerous timeless classics and establishing cinema as one of the country's most cherished forms of entertainment.

A new musical tribute titled “The Legacy” has been released to commemorate the 55th anniversary of The Concert for Bangladesh, the historic fundraising event that united some of the world’s biggest musicians in support of Bangladesh during the 1971 Liberation War.

The multilingual folk horror film, shot in Hindi, Nepali and English, follows troubled teenager Anahita, whose school trek to a remote prehistoric site uncovers unsettling links to an ancient legend. The film also features a fictional language, Boksirit, created specifically for the project.

The line-up features Miles, Warfaze, Different Touch, Lalon, Highway, Ashes and RERE. The concert will begin at 3pm and continue until 9pm, while entry gates will open at 1pm. Admission is free.

Chorki has unveiled a four-title lineup set to premiere throughout August, offering viewers a diverse mix of drama, comedy and surreal storytelling.

Once-popular Dhallywood actor Amin Khan is returning to the big screen after nearly six years with Mohammad Iqbal’s “Gulshaner Chameli”. The film will also mark the Bangladeshi film debut of Tollywood actor Madhumita Sarcar, best known to audiences as Pakhi.

At one time, Rangpur boasted several cinema halls, including Shapla Talkies, Dorodi Hall, Oriental, Lakshmi Talkies, Noor Mahal and China Talkies. Over the years, they closed one after another, with Shapla Talkies becoming the latest—and effectively the last—to shut its doors, bringing the city's long chapter of traditional single-screen cinema to an end.

The line-up includes singer Asif Akbar and bands Ark, Shironamhin, Artcell, AvoidRafa, and Kureghor.
