Today’s lineup spans China, Iran, Turkey, Argentina, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Azerbaijan, Singapore, the UK, Sweden, Italy, Laos, and Kazakhstan—turning Dhaka into a crossroads of world cinema for a single day.

Today, there will be a total of 13 films at the Bangladesh National Museum Main Auditorium, National Museum- Sufia Kamal Auditorium, Shahbagh, seven films at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, National Art Gallery Auditorium, 4 films at Alliance Francaise de Dhaka and 9 films at Stamford University, Bangladesh Auditorium, Siddeswari Road.

Ilias Kanchan is one of the most successful leading men of Bangladesh’s golden era of cinema. He holds the record for acting in numerous commercially successful films, most notably the iconic “Beder Meye Josna”, which made history in Dhallywood. His performances in films such as “Bheja Chokh” moved audiences to tears, and he found success across social, romantic and folk genres. In recognition of his contributions, Kanchan has received the Ekushey Padak, National Film Awards, and a Lifetime Achievement Award at the National Film Awards.

Running from January 10 to 18, the nine-day festival is screening 245 films from 91 countries, making it one of the largest global film showcases in Bangladesh.

According to Netflix’s weekly report, “Haq” currently tops the popularity charts in India. As a non-English language film, it holds second position on the global charts. Additionally, the film ranks number one in five countries worldwide and appears in the top ten in 14 countries.

He added that while major cities are being prioritised initially, there are plans to expand multiplexes to district and upazila levels in the future. “We believe that opening new halls will help increase cinema audiences,” he said.

Badhan revealed another exciting update that she has signed on for a new film, expected to start shooting after the elections. Additionally, her film “Master”, directed by Rezwan Shahriar, has been selected for the Rotterdam International Film Festival, and Badhan will attend the event herself.

Blending reality with imagination, the story explores various facets of love and human choices. The government-funded film “Jibon Opera” is expected to target mainstream audiences. The filmmakers and production team hope to combine the grant with personal investment to develop the film into a fully-fledged commercial production.
